Some People Never Learn

After all these years unhappy, adhering to the same routines
cover up slips by laughing, losing faith in strings of coulda beens

Calling up my friend Isobel, serving up a heap of complaints
claiming that I'm still stuck in hell, that everything given was nothing gained

blessings counted and tallied up
when will everything ever be enough?

Some people never seem to learn, wasting away their days
Waiting by the swing for their turn, waiting to be saved
Will I ever change? Oh, when will I ever change?

After all these years distraught, colouring up philosophies
misunderstood as airy whatnots, tweaked to justify unhealthy tendencies

staring up at those shinier threads above
selfishly wondering 'when will I be loved?'

Some people never seem to learn, wasting away their days
Waiting by the swing for their turn, waiting to be saved
Will I ever change? Oh, when will I ever change?

After all these years swiping at salmon upriver, sinking in 'I told you so's
glance fixated on all the takers and the givers, I realize what I already know

what I already know...what I already know...

running to catch up to revelations, advancing on a potential tailgate
through my panting and pleading, a throaty cry-out of 'oh will you wait?'
Will you wait?

Some people never seem to learn, wasting away their days
Waiting by the swing for their turn, waiting to be saved
My roots remain the same, yet I cling onto the light and pray I'll change

Oh, will you wait?
Will you wait?
