Mayfly

Never, has it ever been long enough,
To savor more than just the taste,
Of what might lie beyond the kisses and the lies,
Moments airborne, are mere figments,
Of an imagination led to believe,
It might solidify,

It might become something worth plunging into,
The phases shift, premature evaluations,
They assist in the stampede of my silhouettes,
They trample over a wounded shadow of past selves,
Floundering in midair, I see the aftermath spelled out below,
Corrupt,
Dejected,
They drift,
They burn,
They die,
I watch them plod off into unknown parameters,
Should another choose my being for another attempt,
Should another choose to dwindle my faith further,
I will gird my vulnerability with armored coils and hard facts,
And these palisades will serve me well,
Because I decide not to let the next event be,
Another mayfly.
