Asymptotes

Words can be blunt objects clubbing us to pieces,
Catapults into a frenzy of grasping straws of reasons,
But there's nothing concrete that isn't painted black,
The naysayers have one foot ahead, they're listening at the cracks,

Before the curtains close,
Asymptotes will put on a show...

We know we'll never reach it!
But please oh please don't say it,
Don't bring the barrage of bad lighting,
Don't bring forth the rain,
We'll just keep trying and trying,
Until we lapse back into fate,

Living with parents still clinging onto vestiges of support,
Giving in to their parodies of your failed attempts at retorts,
But there's no denying that hope dwindles like an insect,
Trapping itself in amber, drowning in false starts and regret,

But before the curtains close,
Asymptotes will put on a show...

We know we'll never reach it!
But please oh please don't say it,
Don't bring the barrage of bad lighting,
Don't bring forth the rain,
We'll just keep trying and trying,
Until we lapse back into fate,

And self help books will pile up on those exam slips,
And cobwebs accumulate in the holes in your logic,
And they can smell your fronting, providence in the trips,
And I can't reach the cookie jar from where I sit,

But before the curtains close,
I am but an asymptote who will put on a show,

Flailing aimlessly,
Masquerading forms of bravery,
And conviction, it will dry,
I won't cease to try,
Until my coffin's lowered,
Regardless of all the impossibilities,
Well, Shackleton was a failure,
But he was still a hero....wasn't he?
